Greece

Why charter in Greece.

The Aegean is blue on blue — water the colour of cobalt ink, hills the colour of dust. You leave Alimos in the morning, clear the Saronic by lunch, and by the second day you're tying stern-to in a fishing harbour where the only other boat is a caïque painted three different blues.

The meltemi shapes everything here. It blows hard from the north most afternoons in high summer, which makes for fast downwind days and occasionally pinned-down evenings. Right for crews who want real sailing and don't mind reefing early. Less right if you're after flat-water lounging — try the Ionian for that.

Greece questions

Asked and answered.

When is the best time to sail the Aegean?
May, June, and September are the sweet spots — warm water, manageable wind, fewer boats. July and August bring the strongest meltemi, sometimes 30+ knots for days. Beautiful sailing if you're experienced; tiring if you're not. April and October are quieter but cooler, with more variable weather.
Do I need a sailing licence to charter in Greece?
Greek authorities require the skipper to hold a recognised sailing certificate (ICC, RYA Day Skipper, or equivalent) plus a VHF radio licence, and a second crew member to be declared as competent co-skipper. If you don't have the paperwork, we can arrange a skipper to come aboard.
How do I get to Athens Alimos Marina?
Fly into Athens International (ATH) — direct from most European capitals. The marina is around 35 minutes by taxi from the airport, or roughly an hour on the metro and tram. We'll send joining instructions and a marina map once your charter is confirmed.
